2.2.0 not loading W98 profiles

Hello,

My little practice network at home has run very well for a couple of years
with 2.0.7.  But after loading 2.2.0 this morning W98 does not load
profiles any more.  I spent three hours on it but failed to fix it.

Here is what I think is the relevent part of smb.conf:-

[global]
	encrypt passwords = yes
	nt acl support = No
	nt pipe support = no
	nt smb support = no
	logon script = startup.bat
	logon home = \\%L\%U\profile
	domain logons = Yes
	os level = 44
	preferred master = no
	domain master = no
	local master = yes

Looks ok to me.  All ideas welcomed.
