Here's the install instructions you posted:

Gunzip the .pkg.gz file
Do a pkgadd -d {pkg-name}.pkg

Sorry, im not that GREAT with UNIX.. The above is meaningless and might have well just been ommited.  In the TAR i downloaded, there are NO .pkg files.  And there isn't a .pkg.gz file either..  There's a 

samba-2.0.7-sparc-sun-solaris2.6.tar   file that extracts into 

SAMBAdoc                              manprototype
SAMBAman                              package
SAMBAroot                             rootpkginfo
SAMBAusr                              rootpostinstall
SUNWits                               rootpostremove
SUNWleo                               rootpreremove
SUNWrtvc                              rootprototype
SUNWtcx  

But there aren't any .pkg files in these directories...
