2.07 DOS based programs SLOW

DOS based programs slow with samba 2.07 and with 2.2 any ideas, if there
was any way i could get rid of these programs i would, trust
me.  Everything else works fine, any windows based program we use if
fine.  Clients are Win9x based, mostly win98.  Debian Woody installed
