Samba 2.0.7 and IRIX

Most likely what you downloaded was a "tardist" package. This is
nothing more that a tar archive of the "inst" package. Untar this
in some directory. From that directory run the following as root

inst -f samba

At the inst prompt just type g and when it is done type q

You can type l before you do the g to see what will be installed if
you like.
