Why doesn't smbmount work?

It works fine for me, at least on RedHat 6.2. Somewhere in the back of
my head, I seem to remember that smbmount is a LINUX only thing.. The
question is: are you trying to use smbmount on LINUX (or is my memory
wrong -- I never discount that possibility). Below is an entry from my
/etc/fstab filethat I use to mount an NT volume in my home directory.
I simply use mount and umount. I do get propmted for a password.

//saturn/resource  /home/rtanner/resource  smbfs   noauto,user     0 0
