./configure issues

I have run ./configure on both 2.0.7Pre2 and tng-alpha-1.1
and get the following error message.

ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe
configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config.

I have compiled Samba before. This is a RH6.1 machine with
kernel 2.2.15-2.5.0 (RH6.2Beta). I am currently running
Samba 2.0.6 with out any major problems.

Any ideas?
