cannot authenticate

On quite a number of PCs running Win95, they took 2 or 3 times to
authenticate the user logon using NT domain logon to samba 2.0.6 (linux
2.2.14).

These PCs are NOT on the same subnet as the samba server, and there are
WinNT and Novell servers on the same network as well.

I setup WINS to point to the samba server, but this does not solve the
problem.

Shoud I try to use c:\windows\lmhosts on the pc clients?
