change permission and smbpasswd

Hi, Samba guru; I need your help.

I am using samba 2.0.6.  security = server and password server = NT PDC; nt
acl support = yes. I am trying to change permission using the NT security
dialogs but failed. In the log file I found that apparently when I connect
to the samba directory, I get authenticate correctly. But when try to change
permission, samba does not try to authenticate through password server but
try to do it by checking smbpasswd. I am not sure if this is way that samba
suppose to be or not. I have following questions:

1. Should I have to create smbpasswd file?
2. If I have to create a smbpasswd file, how do I do it. It is said there is
a "mksmbpasswd.sh" file to do the job. But I could not find the script at
all. Anybody can send me the script and a README file to show how to use it?
3. The reason I didn't try to create the smbpasswd before was because I have
couple of samba servers. I don't know if it is easy to synchronize from our
NIS password map. Is there any way to make the smbpasswd as a NIS map so
that I don't have to update it on all my samba servers individually?
