minor connection problem under Windows 98

We run a small LAN of about 20 computers that use a Linux system running
samba as their central disk server. Everything works as expected 95% of the
time, but occasionally one of the client machines will be unable to connect
to the central disk when booting. There doesn't seem to be any real
correspondence to machine load (which never dips below 80% idle anyway) or
the number of currently running samba connections. Does anyone have any
idea what might be causing the problem or should I simply be telling people
to reboot their machines when it happens?
