NIS+ trouble

I'm a little less new to samba now - but having a heck of a time
getting authentication to work. I'm running NIS+, configured samba
with --with-nisplus --with-nisplus-home and --with-automount.
Does anyone have some good nis/samba references? I'm striking
out.
The smbpasswd file *does* have to become smbpasswd.org_dir for
samba to work. I first created the smbpasswd file using
niscat passwd.org_dir | mksmbpasswd.sh which created smbpasswd.
I ran mknissmbpwdtbl.sh to make the nis+ table, then cat'd
smbpasswd through mknissmbpasswd.sh to populate the nis+
table smbpasswd.org_dir.
When I try to change passwords for a user as root I get this:
[root] % /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd oman
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
make_sam_from_nisp_object: malformed LM pwd entry.
Failed to find entry for user oman.
Failed to modify password entry for user oman
[root] %
When I try to change passwords as a user I get this:
[oman] % /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd
Old SMB password:
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : The specified
password is invalid.
Failed to change password for oman
[oman] %
Can anyone send me a line from their smbpasswd.org_dir file? I'm not
sure the mknissmbpasswd.sh script is populating the table correctly -
the entry for me looks like this:
[stillwater:root] % niscat smbpasswd.org_dir | grep oman
oman:1010::::[U,:NO,PASSWORDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX::::::::::::::
I'd really appreciate any assistance or ideas.
Thanks,
Diane
