Help with windwos 2000 and Samba 2.0.3

I am having a problem getting Windows 2000 to interact with the samba shares
on version
2.0.3.  While I can get to a share explictly, I cannot view a list of
shares, also
when writing to the share, it does not give the correct permissions.
Funny thing is that version 1.9.18p10 works just fine.  This is not a domain
network setup.  This is simple shares on a simple network.
