problems with samba

hello,
i have still the problem with my configuration as i descriped last time. it
isn't a password problem, because all valid users are accepted. if i watch
my log.smb i get these messages:
-for valid users

[2000/01/29 20:39:53, 3] smbd/password.c:authorise_login(741)
  ACCEPTED: validated uid ok as non-guest
[2000/01/29 20:39:53, 3] smbd/service.c:make_connection(424)
  Connect path is /tmp
[2000/01/29 20:39:53, 0] smbd/uid.c:become_gid(105)
  Couldn't set effective gid to 100 currently set to (real=0,eff=0)
[2000/01/29 20:39:53, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(463)
  Can't become connected user!

and for valid guest account

[2000/01/29 20:37:30, 3] smbd/password.c:authorise_login(798)
  ACCEPTED: guest account and guest ok
[2000/01/29 20:37:30, 3] smbd/service.c:make_connection(424)
  Connect path is /tmp
[2000/01/29 20:37:30, 0] smbd/uid.c:become_gid(105)
  Couldn't set effective gid to 65534 currently set to (real=0,eff=0)
[2000/01/29 20:37:30, 0] smbd/uid.c:become_gid(107)
  Looks like your OS doesn't like high gid values - try using a different
account
[2000/01/29 20:37:30, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(463)
  Can't become connected user!

it looks like samba is trying to switch the uid or gid on the socket and my
os (linux kernel 2.0.36 ) doesn't like this, but i dont know how to fix (i
still walked through the fault tree). ideas welcome!
