Steven,

  The answer to your problem is relatively simple.  Run a preexec or
postexec 
script to convert your files before some connects to them.  Like if someone
deletes files from the their home directory and you always want to make
sure
that they are there.

  Another option would be you use a file editor in Windows that simply uses
CF LF instead of the newline character when working with text files.  I
personally use PFE32 and I know that it can do the line return thing.  It
is
free and available from www.download.com.
