You might want to check the patches page
(http://samba.org/samba-patches/), look at the "accepted" patches, and
look at the one for "Bug in UID handling for HP-UX".  I had the same
problem, but it went away after fixing this.  For what it's worth, 2.0.6
now works ok for me under 10.20 and 11.00.  Seems to be okay for
Win95/98/NT4 (though unfortunately, we're not using encrypted passwords).
