Problem with semaphore

I have a Cobalt Qube 2, running Linux 2.0.34, I am having this error
message in the log file when I start smbd:

  ERROR: root did not create the semaphore: semgid=0, rootgid=0

  ERROR: Failed to initialise share modes

Any ideas of where/what to look at?
