mysterious mapping/disk space problems

In the last few days of December, I increased the amount of available
disk space that my samba service uses.  It was up around 95% full (a few
gigs left) until I deleted some old logfiles.  Now it's around 60% full
and users aren't having problems.

For everyone who's been having these mysterious problems, are you low
(percentage-wise) on disk space?
