Probably nt thinks that partition is fat16 or something like that, so
maybe it tells you the overhead (like it does for local stuff)?

There are 2 files of 11 bytes each:

If I select the 2 files on a win98/fat32 dir (no network, same pc),
win98 says:
22 byte (22 byte) , 8.192 byte

If I select the 2 files on a samba share, win98 says:
if from network neighborhood:
22 byte (22 byte) , 1.024 byte
if the share is mapped (seen as NTFS):
22 byte (22 byte) , 65.536 byte

If I select the 2 files on a win95fat16 share, win98 says:
if from network neighborhood:
22 byte (22 byte) , 1.024 byte
if the share is mapped (seen as FAT):
22 byte (22 byte) , 32.768 byte

If I select the 2 files on a win98fat32 share, win98 says:
if from network neighborhood:
22 byte (22 byte) , 1.024 byte
if the share is mapped (seen as FAT32):
22 byte (22 byte) , 65.536 byte

So, it's not a reliable value :)

However, I've just tried doing the same from an nt4sp6a and it does not
show me the 2nd value doing "select/properties" as win98 does. What
version of nt are you using?
