Checking log size fails

This is possible. There are some computers in our domain heavily trying
to access my server (which is denied except one). I now closed my firewall
against them -- may be that helps...

I did so allready in the morning :-)

Just moved [sn]mb to [sn]mb.old manually (considered to do so allready
:-) After restart, new files have been created -- so the deamons now
should be able to write to the files.

 Don> make sure that everyone has 'x' permission at least to traverse the
 Don> directories; also make sure that the /var/log
 Don> subdirectory is writeable by root; perhaps this was inadvertently changed

Seems to be OK.

No, they're not written to the file.
