I have the exact same problem here ...
Does anyone have an answer to this ?

My setup is as follow, the server and the MASQ run RH with kernel 2.2.17,
I tried a source and an RPM version of Samba. The clients are running NT
or 98, and connot connect once I get that error in the server logs :

SMB Server  <-->  Linux MASQ  <-->  Clients
IP range A      Range A  Range B     Range B
