You win the prize!  Thanks.  That got rid of everything except
.profile.ksh (I assume because of the extra dot in that filename.)  I
can live with that.

Having only been running Linux for a week, I'm not quite ready to
attempt to upgrade to Samba 2.0.7.  If it hadn't been for SWAT and
Caldera's Webmin, I wouldn't have gotten this far!
