connections.tdb not initialised in 2.2.alpha1

The /var/lock/samba.d directory is working correctly for samba 2.0.6 -- rights
are rwxr-xr-x, but to be safe I chmod'd them 777 and still had the problem.

There is no connections.tdb file -- anywhere on the disk that I can find
(although I don't think updatedb goes into the var directory)
