hi,
no idea why this performance problem occurs,
however i see a workaround :

copy /etc/smb.conf to /home/samba/smb.conf
then create a symbolic link to it :

ln -s /home/samba/smb.conf /etc/smb.conf

I never place my smb.conf file into /etc,
but always put a link.
