FreeBSD 4.0 Samba 2.0.7 NT machine accounts & domain logins?

Hi,I came across this page while browsing in the
listarchives:

http://bioserve.biochem.latrobe.edu.au/samba/

The link on the page about adding machines and users
had some interesting things in it that I thought I
would try out. Specifically this link is:

http://bioserve.biochem.latrobe.edu.au/samba/adding.html

I want to be able to log into the samba 2.0.7 'domain'
from an NT workstation. In order to do this I need to
create an account called the name of my NT
workstationwith a '$' appended to it.
ie: ntmachine$

The adduser command will not allow me to do this.
When I edit /etc/passwd manually the system still
doesn't seem to like it.
After the account is created on the system I need to
add it to the smbpasswd file by using the
command:smbpasswd -a m ntmachine$
When issuing this command smbpasswd complains that it
cannot find a user with this name in the /etc/passwd
file (even though I have manually edited the file
sothat it is in there.

Is there any way to Add NT machine account to a
FreeBSD 4.0 Samba 2.0.7 system? If so how do I do it?

Also, where is the smbpasswd file (the file - not the
binary utility) kept on FreeBSD? I have installed
Samba 2.0.7 from the ports collection on the FreeBSD
website but downloading the package and using
the'pkgadd'command.

Please reply to my email as well as the list as I
don't subscribe, only browse the archives every second
day or so. Thanks.
