logging in through Win98

I must admit, this is confusing me.

I've created a user and an smbpassword for the username "guest" on my
Linux box.
guest is also a user on my Win98 machine.  guest can access my Linux box
through win98.

my user (let's say bob) also has an smbpassword (same as his real
password on the LInux box and Win98 machine) however, whenever I try to
access my Linux box through Win98, I'm told the password is incorrect.
What do I need to do to log into Linux from win98?
