Dear Sirs:
I wish to report my experience with the package.
I have compiled and used Samba 2.0.7pre 2, pre3, and pre4. I have not
had any trouble connecting to Samba's shares (from an NT client), but I
would like to report a problem with SMBFS and SMBMOUNT. NT4, SP5 shares
mounted into the filespace of the Linux box can disconnect over time
with two possible outcomes. The activity is registered in the ring
buffer as follows:
a) successful reconnect negotiation:
smb_trans2_request: result=-32, setting invalid
smb_retry: new pid=24456, generation=3
smb_trans2_request: result=-32, setting invalid
smb_retry: new pid=24456, generation=4
b) unsuccessful reconnect negotiation:
smb_lookup: find //linux failed, error=-5
smb_retry: caught signal
smb_retry: signal failed, error=-3
I am using Linux, kernel 2.2.15pre17, glibc 2.1. I have tried other
kernel versions to remedy this problem without success. There was a
topic in comp.protocols.smb, "disappearing shares" problem (especially
with kernel 2.2.14). This seems to be the same problem I am having. I
am wondering if this problem has been resolved?
Also, here is a directory listing of /usr/src/linux/fs/smbfs/*.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7367 Mar 7 1999 cache.c

Thank you for your work developing this important package within the
Open Source software movement.
