Another option is Amanda.  It's free and will run on AIX and many other
platforms.  I've used it to backup Linux, FreeBSD, and BDSI for over a year
now without failure.  One limitation you may run into with your 12G tape
drive is that it will not backup a single partition that contains more data
than will fit on a single tape (compressed).  Check it out at
