Problems with Windows 2000/Samba/Passwords.

On my old 98 box, everything worked fine, I had set 98 to send passwords cleartext, and Samba liked it.  Now that i've moved to NT i've decided to go with encrypted passwords, but I can't get it working with Samba.  I uncommented the lines in the smb.conf file relating to encrytped passwords, ran the smbpasswd program, but when i try to log on a Samba Windows NT says my login stuff is wrong, and asks me to re-enter it.

Can someone please help me?  I'm so confused now....
