missing shares

What would cause a user to connect to a Samba server, and only get a partial
list of shares (like just the one she connected to)? This happened only once
in the whole time we've been using Samba. Example of problem:
Normal list of shares:
\\sambaserv\ashare
\\sambaserv\another
\\sambaserv\cme
User connects to \\sambaserv\ashare. In the log.smb file, all three sections
are processed [ashare] [another] [cme] without problem. After sometime, the
user tries to access \\sambaserv\cme. It is not listed as one of the
available shares. Killing the smbd deamon, and then re-listing the shares
fixes everything.
