functionality of lmhosts file

Hi all,

Once upon a time, if you had an entry in the lmhosts file of a samba server
call bigserver (say) like

0.0.0.0 myserver

then any query from a client to bigserver asking for \\myserver would be
answered by bigserver. This functionality seems to have disappeared going
from perhaps 1.9.17 to 1.9.18? I was wondering why and whether there were
any plans to put it back? 

I was also wondering about progress towards wins replication but whether
this would allow for a name to which all servers would respond, although
since any client here can only see one server that's fine.

Does this make any sense??
