DDNS really seems to be a solution.
Did you consider, on the other hand, assigning the IP-Addresses on a
MAC-Address-basis statically? This means one entry per client in dhcpd.conf,
of course, according to which dhcpd grants the leases. But it might be more
reliable and transparent than unleashing big-time WAN technology on a LAN.
And you could very comfortably control any single client's network
configuration through the variety of options supported by the dhcp protocol.
