smbclient, smbmount won't work linux-linux

I have 2.05a installed on a couple of Red Hat boxes (6.0 & 6.1). I have no
trouble with the following mappings:

win* -> linux
linux -> win*

However, I cannot use smbclient or smbmount between the 2 linux boxes. Both
give me errors saying bad username password pair. My command line looks
like:

smbmount //rhhost/share -I 123.123.123.123 -U joeuser

Can anyone help?
