There's a patch for this (patch-ah, dated Wed Sep 22 11:30:18 1999).
CVSup your port tree to ensure it's up to date and do this:
# cd /usr/ports/net/samba
# make deinstall && make && make install
Restart smbd and nmbd and you should be in business.
