smbmount permissions

[Yah rite]

I'm having trouble with permissions and smbmount. I mounted a win98 share 
with full write access to /ftpd/site/incoming . A ls -l gives the following 
directory permissions:

drwxr-xr-x   1 root     root          512 May 29 16:52 incoming/

I need drwxrwxrxw so i tried:

chmod 777 incoming

nothing changed. My ftp daemon won't allow my users to create directories or 
upload to the incoming directory, even though as root - in my shell - I seem 
to have write access.
