status..lck not found

I just installed samba and configured smb.conf using swat. when i run smbd, i
get no errors. however, i can't see myself on any windows computers. when i run
smbstatus, i get this line that it cannot open a file called "STATUS..LCK". I
went to the directory where samba was looking for it and found nothing of that
name.

any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
