SWAT access control

I'd like to see SWAT use something other than the root password for
controlling access.  We run Samba on our web development servers, and
would really like to not have to pass out the root password just for Samba
maintainance (since for example, I don't even know what it is -- I just
use Sudo).

Is anyone looking into providing any sort of access control functionality
for SWAT?  From looking at the code, it doesn't look all that difficult to
do, I'm just cramped for time right now.
