When the world was young, Kirk Patton <kirk.patton at amd.com> carved 
some runes like this:

If you mean something on a real OS (as opposed to windoze) then 
both smbclient and nmblookup can give you scads of information on 
SMB resources on the network.  Read the man pages and try different 
switches.
