Swat password syncronization

Hi All

I've installed Samba 2.0.3 and can't put Swat "unix passowrd sync" to
work.

I set:
  passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
  passwd chat = *New*password:* %n\n *Re-enter*new*password:*
%n\n*changed.*
  passwd chat debug = Yes
  unix password sync = Yes
  log level = 100
 
The password page says "The password for 'user' has been changed".
In fact it has been changed ! But only at smbpasswd. Shadow remains
untouched.

The log file has no reference to "password chat" string. It seems to me
that the passwd program is not executed anyway.

Any soul to the rescue?

System: Linux 2.0.36
