smbsh on HP-UX

I just compiled Samba 2.0 on HP-UX 10.20. gcc and the native linker compiled
smbwrapper.so without a problem, but I can't get the OS to load it when I
run smbsh. The PORTING file says to find out how to preload a library and
that a lot of systems use the LD_PRELOAD environment variable. HP-UX does
not and I can find no documentation that HP-UX will do this sort of thing at
all. Does anyone have any ideas? Would it be possible to just link
smbwrapper.so in with bash or some other shell?
