PAM on Solaris 2.5.1

I am trying to compile Samba 2.0.2 on Solaris 2.5.1 without PAM.  The
configure script displays 'No' for all the pam tests, but when I try to run
the compile code (testparm, smbclient) the complain about a missing
libpam.so.1.

Am I missing something during the configuration?
