Backup using ARCserve

I'd suspect that ARCserve is querying the OS on the peer and looking
for specific strings to recognize what constitutes a valid
"workstation" OS. I'm not sure what's sent across the wire during share
negotiation (check the logs with the debug level cranked up) but you
might be able to recompile Samba to lie about what it is, or at least
tag its ID with something that looks more like NTWS.

Does your version of ARCserve detect and deny an attempt to backup a
peer NT server? That would serve to confirm my theory.
