smbclient tar failure 1.9.18 and 2.0.0

Hello,

I am trying to use smbclient to create a backup using tar.  I run the
command:
  smbclient \\wizard\backup XXX -U backup -E -d0 -Tc - > wizard.tar

Smbclient ran fine, but when I tried to check it using Solaris tar:
  tar tvf wizard.tar

It listed most of the file, and then gave the error message:
  tar: directory checksum error

Checking it with gnutar gives:
  tar: Unexpected EOF on archive file
  tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

The file wizard.tar is 163Mb.

I am running Samba 2.0.0 on Solaris 2.4, but I also saw the problem on
1.9.18.
