Socket Options

I'm looking for a little advice concerning 'socket options'.

What I'm looking for is descriptions/explanations of the various options
that I can set. I have a list of the options I can set, but no descriptions.
I've looked in the man pages and in a Samba book that I have. (Maybe I just
wasn't looking in the right place.)

I'd like to at least have an inkling of what these options do before I start
tinkering with my configuration.
