Do not use the smbfs package. Everything you need is in:
samba-2.0.3.tar.gz
run configure --with-smbmount and any other options you think you may
need.

The smbfs parts are already in the kernel.

You may be interested in the smbmount script on this page to make the new
smbmount look like the old (for things like autofs).
