thank you very much for the hints and comments

and yes, I did try both smbmount from samba-2.0.3 and
the smbmount-2.0.1 from smbfs
	both fails...
	and yes..know about the syntax changes...

and will go and check the win95 bug work around
and take it out of the kernel.... maybe that is the
cause of the times stamps getting messed up ....
every file/dir gets messed up time stamps spreading
from years from 1900-2099 range... when the what looks
like the "last modified" timestamp gets changed ...

thanx...will try these new win95 experiments on monday
