samba password problem

Hello

I am sorry if this a FAQ!

I run the latest samba on 2 identical unix machines 1 for staff only  and 1 for staff & students, plus I now have an NT server.

Maintaining the password files is a nightmare !!

would it be possible to authorise logons on the staff & student machine using both unix and either smbpasswd or the NT server.
This would allow me to sync the staff password files on both unix machines and allow me to maintain a single separate file for
student accounts.

Has anyone any ideas
