Win98 and CHAP

Solaris 2.5.1, Samba 1.9.18p10, trying in vain to talk to a Win98 box.
Apparently, the passwords need to be encrypted.

I found something that said I need to configure CHAP for this to work, but
cannot find any further references.  Yes, I know what CHAP is, I just need
to know how to teach Samba...

Unless I was looking in the wrong place, I couldn't see anything in the
FAQ...
