"couldn't find service" messages

SETUP
-----

- Samba server 18p4 running on SGI IRIX 6.2.  domain=WORKGROUP and NOT
   domain master.  The only services are [printers] and [homes].
   
   But in [globals], we have the following non-default settings:
   
   wins support = yes
   dns proxy = yes
   
   (We needed this to have the client machines be able to see the
   non-NT machines on the network without having to populate the
   hosts file of each machine.)
   
- NT 4 server (called haleakala) is domain master for NTDOMAIN

QUESTION

What would cause the log.smb.haleakala file to contain the following
messages?

05/07/1998 14:24:15 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:24:25 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:24:35 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:24:46 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:24:58 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:25:08 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:25:19 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:25:31 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:25:43 couldn't find service haleakala
05/07/1998 14:25:55 couldn't find service haleakala

That file is now 200KB large and growing.
