newbie question on file perms

Hi,
Hope this question isn't too stupid, or addressed to the wrong crowd....

Am running samba-1.9.16p2 and am having troubles getting the
"create mode" or "create mask" designators in the smb.conf file
to be honored.  All files created on the pc's are coming out 740.
Would like them to be 755.

Am I missing something obvious?

Servers are solaris 2.5.1
