File lock test

Samba appears to accept a file lock request, but there is no change to
the lock file STATUS..LCK

Does samba attempt to record a file lock in STATUS..LCK , or does samba
store individual file lock information somewhere else on the server? 

i.e. how can I check that samba has actually received a request to
lock a file?
