PPTP (the tunnelling protocol used) is definitely documented. Look in
the RFC archives. 

As far as the encryption used, I haven't seen it documented anywhere,
and think that it is probably proprietary.

Look for an IPSec client for PCs, as it is standardized and there are
free reference implementations available for many Unixes.
